Inline Freestyle Open National Ranking Championship Begins on a High Note
The Inline Freestyle Open National Ranking Championship got off to a spectacular start at the iconic Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, featuring an impressive opening ceremony and strong participation from skaters across the country.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Services, Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, who officially declared the championship open. Other distinguished guests included Shri Bijay Kumar Swain, Additional Secretary, Department of Sports; Shri Amit Nayak, Deputy Secretary, Department of Sports; Shri Samir Mohanty, President, Odisha Olympic Association; Ms. Sonali Chand, OSD to the Minister; Shri Sampad Dalai, OSD to the Minister; and members of the Skating Association of Odisha. During the event, RSFI President Shri Tulsi Ram Agarwal was formally felicitated by Shri Bijaya Kumar Swain, OAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha.
The championship features a unique showcase of Inline Freestyle skating, with demonstrations by talented skaters from Odisha, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, and Maharashtra. The events cover a wide range of disciplines, including Speed Slalom, Classic Slalom, Battle, Pair Slalom, Slides, and Free Jump, giving guests and spectators an opportunity to experience the skill, creativity, and athleticism involved in the sport.
In a special gesture toward the participating athletes, breakfast was provided free of cost to all skaters, reflecting the organisers’ commitment to skater welfare and creating a welcoming experience for participants travelling from across India.
The choice of Kalinga Stadium as the venue was widely appreciated by the participants. Skaters particularly praised the excellent skating track, dedicated warm-up facilities, clean restrooms and changing rooms, air coolers, free drinking water, and ample seating arrangements, along with the venue’s convenient location and ease of travel.
Expanding its reach to fans nationwide, the championship achieved a major digital milestone. For the first time, the event is being broadcast live not only on RSFI TV but also featured live on the Odisha Government’s State Sports Channel.
The event also witnessed a significant media presence, bringing greater visibility to Inline Freestyle skating in Odisha.
